My topic is the United States Sanitary Commission and these are three ideas for questions that I will answer in my paper:
1) What were the main purposes of the commission
2) Why was it created
3) How did it operate during the war

7) One problem that I can forsee using this source for my paper is that some of the information was published a few months after the war was over and it was not done by Louisa May Alcott so it might not be as relaible.
primary source
Friday, September 4th, 2009One primary source that I will be using for my paper is titled Hospital Sketches, by Louisa May Alcott. This comprises many different moments during her time serving as a nurse for the union army during the Civil War. She published half of the sketches right after her time as a nurse and the rest were compiled a fer months later. This will be a great source regarding the sanitary commission because it is coming from someone who actually took care of the soldiers during the war.

William Winsor Jr.’s existence?
Friday, September 4th, 2009Regarding the actual existence of William Winsor Jr. the only thing I could find was the same website where professor Al-Tikriti found the life story: www.brickwall.us/brickwall/william%20winsor.htm. After my google search I was unable to find any substantial information that proved he actually existed. I did find things regarding the William Winsor school, but no proof that he actually existed.

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009I spoke with Dr. Jim McClurken earlier this week about my potential topic, which was the United States Sanitary Commission. This was created during the Civil War and consisted of many women who aided the men with their medical needs during the War. He thought this was a good sart but I would need to centralize the focus of my essay because there are a couple different levels of the Commission and he suggested I focus on one or two. Also he gave me a few sources where I could begin my research and also mentioned that these sources could lead me to find other sources. Overall, It was a very productive meeting that pointed me in the right direction.

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009I have been thinking about a topic relating to the Civil War for my research paper. I have narrowed my choices down to the Sanitary Commission which was the group of women who served as doctors for the soldiers. Also I am looking at the weaponry used and have an appointment to hopefully finalize my topic.

Tuesday, September 1st, 20091) David Almond kept the main family history for William Jon Winsor Jr as well as his grandfather, Luther Harris
2) This source has been written over a period of time. It began when David Almond began composing the Winsor family history in 1820 and William Jon Winsor Jr. started to gather facts in 1920 and has continued gathering facts ever since.
3) The Winsors had family friends named the Almonds and David Almond started gathering facts and creating the family history.
4) The author was born on April 16, 1920 in Princeton, New Jersey. In his early years, he lived a very rudimentary existence. As a young boy, he moved to Connecticut, but shortly after moved back to New Jersey where he finished sixth grade. He went to Vietnam, but never saw any action and overall traveled many places around the United Sates and the world during his lifetime.
5) The source was composed over many years when certain events happened in the authors life. It is a running commentary of places he live, where he went to school and certain jobs he had over the years.
6) It provides lots of biographical information specifically about the author. If we were to write an autobiography about William Jon Winsor Jr. this is a great source because it gives us a great history of his life.
7) -The source does not give any backrground to where it came from such as the internet or a book. It only gives the author and says that it has been compiled over a period of time.
-We dont know if the author is a reliable source
-The source also has no date, of website so we have no idea where it came from
